Our Story
Torchbearer Tattoo began in 2014 as a shared vision between founders Chris Cautillo and Ron Wells: a tattoo shop in Providence, Rhode Island built on a simple idea — creating a safe, comfortable environment to get tattooed by exceptional artists in a space that gives them the freedom and comfort to do their best work. That vision opened its doors as a private studio at The Hope Artist Village in Pawtucket, RI, where Torchbearer laid its foundation serving tattoo clients across New England and beyond.
By 2017, our original 760-square-foot space couldn’t keep up with demand, so we moved into our current home at 755 Westminster St, Providence, RI. The two-floor, 2,500-square-foot studio gives up to nine tattoo artists room to work at once — close enough for clients to connect with their artist, without feeling like a crowded shop.
In 2022, Chris became sole owner of Torchbearer Tattoo, carrying forward the same ethics and ethos the shop was built on. For over a decade, we’ve served tattoo clients throughout Providence RI, southern Massachusetts, and eastern Connecticut, hosting talented guest tattoo artists from across the country alongside our resident team. Beyond tattooing, Torchbearer has hosted artist seminars, painting workshops, and holiday events — and we’re always adding more ways to bring our community together.
Our Mission
Torchbearer Tattoo was founded on one belief: both clients and tattoo artists deserve a safe, comfortable space to create incredible art that will stand the test of time. For our artists, that means having a voice in the shop, room to grow creatively, and access to top-tier equipment to deliver their best tattoos. For our clients, it means creating and maintaining a welcoming, comfortable, inclusive atmosphere that offers a wide range of styles from talented, skilled tattoo artists.
From your first consultation through design, application, and aftercare, we’re with you at every step. Questions are always welcome — especially if you’re new to tattoos — because a great tattoo experience is as much about how you’re treated as the tattoo itself.
